Plane-crash victim was S.C. physician

EL DORADO -- A coroner has identified the man killed in a plane crash in south-central Arkansas as a doctor from South Carolina.

Union County Coroner Curtis Butterfield told the El Dorado News-Times that 51-year-old John Jobe of Florence County, S.C., died when the plane he was piloting crashed Sunday near South Arkansas Regional Airport.

Butterfield said Jobe's business partner believed Jobe was heading to the Grand Canyon for a vacation and didn't know why he would have been flying in southern Arkansas.

The plane crashed about noon Sunday after the pilot had contacted airport staff.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash, and the body was being sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
