Police: Woman faces charges of attempting to choke ex-boyfriend

A West Fork woman attempted to choke a former boyfriend after breaking into his apartment, according to police documents.

Shelby Wells, 18, of 14253 Low Gap Road in West Fork was arrested Sunday in connection with aggravated assault on a family or household member, residential burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and third-degree domestic battery.

A 911 call from apartments at 1977 East Citrine Link at 12:13 a.m. Sunday stated a man had been assaulted by a woman and the woman may have something in her eye from being pushed to the ground, according to police call logs.

Wells initially told police she had just broken up with her boyfriend that night and had slapped him in the face while packing, according to a preliminary police report. Later she told police they had broken up about a week earlier, although she had been repeatedly coming by the apartment to speak to him. After getting a Snapchat from the man showing him and another woman on Saturday she headed to the apartment, according to the report.

The man told police Wells and two friends arrived about 10 p.m., walked in through an open door and began destroying things inside and damaged his vehicle. When he arrived home his vehicle and a woman's purse had been covered in chocolate syrup and the other woman's possessions scattered across the parking lot, according to the report.

The man told police the two began to argue and Wells scratched him, cut his hand and pushed him against the wall and choked him during an hour-long fight, according to the report.

Police talked to a witness who said Wells called her former boyfriend to say she was in the apartment and had taken the other woman's purse, according to the report.

Wells eventually told police she and her friends had gone into the apartment and damaged things there but told police her friends had attacked the man, not her, according to the report.

Wells was released Sunday from the Washington County Detention Center on a $3,500 bond.
