Art Guild

The Rogers Art Guild will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Rogers. This month's program is by Annie Schwartz on her handmade dolls. Everyone is welcome.

Genealogy

Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 S. Main St. The program will be given by Claudia Lasater of Siloam Springs, who has just published Out of Harm's Way, an historical novel set during the Civil War in Benton County. She will share the research methods she used to gather information and facts for the story of the Howdeshell family.

Republicans

The Republican Party of Benton County will meet Tuesday at Benton County Services Center, 1204 SW 14th St. in Bentonville. Networking is from 6:30 to 7 p.m., with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.

Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will meet Tuesday at the Peel Mansion Museum & Heritage Gardens. Speaker will be Chelsea Hermez, owner of Garden Living and Pigmint. Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 1 p.m.

Democrats

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. The guest speaker will be Tim Helder, Washington County sheriff, who will discuss issues facing county law enforcement, including bed space and interaction with the state prison system.

Historians

The South Madison County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall. The program is "Take Me to the River: White River In Our Lives and Hearts." It will include stories, poems, pictures and songs about the river. Audience participation is always welcome.

Photographers

The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas will hold a class on "Shooting and Processing Raw" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the PSNWA Gallery & Studios, 126 W. Emma Ave. in Springdale. The class, led by Melissa Jones, will explain the difference between raw and jpg photo file formats, the advantages of raw and how to process photos in Adobe Camera Raw. The class is free to PSNWA members or $15 for nonmembers.

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the General Store at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale, 118 W. Johnson Ave.

The program will be presented by Anita Burney of the Historical Elm Springs Museum. She will speak about the Civil War in the Elm Springs area.

The meeting is open to the public, and anyone with an interest in Civil War history is invited.

AAUW

The Fayetteville Branch of the American Association of University Women will hold a fall kick-off social at 11 a.m. Saturday at the home of Mary Alice Serafini, 3305 Summerhill Drive in Fayetteville. Since 1881, AAUW has been the nation's leading voice in advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. The public is welcome.

Photo Club

The Photography Club of the Ozarks is calling for entries for a fall photography show at the historic Hotel Seville, 302 N. Main St. in Harrison.

The show is open to all photographers 18 or older. The exhibit opens on Aug. 30 and runs until Sept. 26, featuring entries from all over Northwest Arkansas.

All entries must be delivered to The Hotel Seville between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Aug. 29. Entries may be dropped off early by contacting Rose Carter at (870) 688-0373 to make arrangements.

An award ceremony and reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 at The Hotel Seville, with awards announced at 3 p.m. Photographers do not need to be present to win but are encouraged to attend so that they can be recognized in person and publicity photos taken. Award monies will be determined by the number of entries. Checks will be issued at the end of the show.

Entries are solicited in two categories, black and white, and color, with a special category for "Heritage And History," either black and white or color. The entry fee is $5 per image for club members, and $10 for nonmembers.

Photos may be no larger than 16 inch by 20 inch including mat, and no smaller than 8 inch by 10 inches. Photos should be matted, but not framed. Photos will be hung using clips attached to the mats.

The maximum number of entries per photographer is five, plus one in the special category, for a total of six entries.

The Little Switzerland Amateur Radio Club will meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Physicians building at Mercy Hospital in Berryville, 211 Carter St.

Whirlaways

ARK-OMA Whirlaways Square Dance Club will be starting square dance lessons on Sept. 12 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 1800 W. Emma Ave. in Springdale. Lessons are from 10 a.m. to noon. The first two lessons are free.

Calico Cutups

The Calico Cutups quilt guild will meet Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. Visit with the vendor from Bittersweet Quilts, Joplin, Mo. The social hour and shopping with the vendor begins at noon and the program at 1 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Theresa Ward. She will demonstrate fast ways to use a stash of fabric. A meeting and show-and-tell will follow the speaker.

All levels of quilters are welcome. There is a $5 cover charge for nonmembers to help defray overhead costs.

Calico Cutups will also host the Quilt Congress on Sept. 25-26 at the Bella Vista Assembly of God Family Life Center, 1771 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. The cost is $35 with additional fees for workshops. Pre-registration is required at calicocut-ups.blogspot.com by the Sept. 15 deadline.

Perfect Harmony

Perfect Harmony Women's Barbershop Chorus meets at 7 p.m. every Monday in the choir room of the United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista. Perfect Harmony is seeking new members to join the group. No previous experience is required and there are no tryouts.

Bella Vista Photos

There will be no club meeting in August and no digital competition in August or September.

Fall competition prints are due to be turned in at the September meeting. Members may visit the club website at bcphotoclub.com to download entry forms. For questions, contact John Roberts, competition chairman.

The next club meeting will be Sept. 12 at the Village Insurance Community Room. All interested photographers are invited to attend.

Kingsdale Squares

The Kingsdale Squares will not dance Monday. The next dance will be Sept. 14 at the Kingsdale complex.

Altrusa International of Bentonville/Bella Vista meets at the River Grille in Bentonville at 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. It is an international women's organization whose focus is children's literacy.

Cloggers

The fall session for the Hoot 'n Holler Cloggers will begin Sept. 8 at Riordan Hall in Bella Vista. The starting time for the beginning class will be 3:30 p.m., followed by the regular class at 4:30 p.m. A 10-session punch card can be purchased for $30 at Riordan Hall. Pick up a copy of the class schedule at registration.

Granny's Quilts

The 12th annual dinner and auction, coming up Saturday, will be held at the Pea Ridge High School cafeteria. The dinner is from 5 to 7 p.m., and the auction will start around 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, cole slaw, drinks and homemade desserts at $6 for adults and $4 for children 2 to 12.

The group has now donated 20,350 quilts to the Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Andante

The Andante Music Club of Bella Vista will begin its 2015-16 season Sept. 1 at the Highland Christian Church of Bella Vista, located at 1500 Highland Blvd. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month (except January, July and August). All ladies and gentlemen of the community who enjoy and appreciate music are invited to attend the meeting.

The September meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will feature a potluck luncheon provided by members of the club. Guests are invited to attend the luncheon.

Following lunch, a program will be provided by the Skunk Hollow Band, a local, six-member instrumental/vocal group, which will play a mixture of older songs, country, gospel, folk and bluegrass.

Following the program, Mandie Query, club president, will conduct a business meeting.

The local Andante Music Club of Bella Vista is an affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs.

GOP Women

The Siloam Springs Republican Women will meet Monday at the First Bank Community Room at 200 Progress Ave. Coffee time is 6:30 p.m., and the program starts at 7 p.m.

Some members attended the GOP Debate Aug. 6, and the program will be a roundtable discussion on their experiences. Special guest will be Jonathan Barnett, sharing input from the debate. The community is invited.

Writers

The Siloam Springs Writers will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 at the social room at 28 Springs in downtown Siloam Springs. Speaker will be Sherry McMillen, who will discuss alliteration to add spice to writing.

Legion

American Legion Post 29 in Siloam Springs announces a re-start of "Coffee with the Commander." This program is designed to familiarize local veterans with the programs of the American Legion and the activities of the local post.

The informal meeting will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Saturday in the basement of the Community Building. Anyone who has "put the uniform on" and served in active duty is invited. All subjects are open for discussion, except politics and religion.
