Maebry Halmes of Fort Smith, a student at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, spent the summer on an internship to find ways to make UAFS more energy efficient. Halmes worked with Plant Operations at the university, assisting facilities manager Larry Chilton in the university’s energy-related efforts. In the internship, Halmes has helped map the university’s energy usage to find ways to save on energy costs, evaluated campus buildings by the standards of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, entered historical energy use data for trend assessment and installed energy-efficient equipment across the campus. Through the internship, Halmes said her experiences have motivated her to educate the student population on actions they can take to make the campus more energy efficient.

FAYETTEVILLE

University of Dallas

The University of Dallas named approximately 350 students to the Dean's List for earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the spring 2015 semester. Local students include:

• Laura Farrell of Fort Smith, who is majoring in biology

• Annamica Reding of Omaha, who is majoring in psychology. Reding also won the Sophomore Student Government Involvement Award.

Centre College

Anne Mitchell of Fayetteville was among 327 members of the Class of 2015 who graduated from Centre College, Danville, Ky., at the 192nd Commencement ceremony in May. Mitchell received a Bachelor of Science degree in behavioral neuroscience. She did collaborative research in psychology with Brian Cusato. Mitchell is the daughter of Jim and Shannon Mitchell of Fayetteville and is a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

Milwaukee School of Engineering

John-Paul Petersen of Booneville graduated May 23 from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and with honors. Undergraduate students with a cumulative GPA between 3.20 and 3.69 are listed as having graduated with "honors."

Bates College

Jackson Emanuel, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Emanuel of Fayetteville, graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, after majoring in biological chemistry. He is a 2011 graduate of Lakewood High School.

He graduated as a member of Sigma Xi, a national honor society that recognizes excellence in scientific research.

University of Akron

Emily Bartell of Eureka Springs graduated from the University of Akron, Ohio. Bartell successfully completed the program requirements earning the Master of Music music-strings performance.

University of Iowa

Emma Steinkraus of Fayetteville received an Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, at the close of the spring semester.

State Technical College

Joseph Eaton of Fayetteville achieved academic excellence during the spring semester at State Techinical College in Linn, Mo.

To be placed on the Honor Roll, a full-time student must earn a semester grade point average between 3.0 and 3.499 on a 4-point scale.

UALR

The Provost's Academic Excellence Scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock awards a total of $32,000 over four years if renewal requirements are met each year. This competitive scholarship is for entering freshman and requires the recipient to have a 28 or above on the ACT and at least a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average.

• Audrey Fleming of Charleston, a graduate of Charleston High School

The Chancellor's Academic Distinction Scholarship awards a total of $40,000 for four years if renewal requirements are met. It is given to entering freshmen who earned a score of 30 or above on the ACT and at least a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average.

• Kendra Ewing of Prairie Grove, a Prairie Grove High School graduate

• Chynna Denham of Fort Smith, a Hartford High School graduate

The Dean's Academic Merit Scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a competitive scholarship for entering freshmen and requires a 26 or above on the ACT. It awards a total of $24,000 for four years if renewal requirements are met.

The following incoming freshmen have been awarded this scholarship:

• Audrey Kelley of Fayetteville, a Rogers High School graduate

• Mason Hunter of Van Buren, a Alma High School graduate

Columbia College

Paul E. Harris of Clarksville was named to the Columbia College, Mo., Dean's List for the March-May and May-July sessions. To be named to the Dean's List a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Mary Baldwin College

Mariah Efurd of Alma was named to the spring Dean's List at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Va.

Students named to the Dean's List earned grade point averages of 3.50 to 3.74. To be eligible, a student must be a degree candidate and must have earned at least 12 semester hours for the grading period.

Creighton

University

Jack Robertson of Rogers, a sophomore in the Heider College of Business, was named to the Dean's List at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., for spring 2015. Full-time students who earn a 3.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the Dean's List.

The University of Central Arkansas recently released the list of graduates from the winter commencement on May 2. Local graduates include:

Charles Nystrom of Rogers has been named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at Wheaton College (Ill.)

To earn Dean's List honors at Wheaton, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on the 4.0 scale.

UMass Boston

Desirae Adams of Rogers was among 2,916 students from the University of Massachusetts Boston who made the spring Dean's List.

Columbia College

Trever A. Wood of Rogers was named to the Columbia College, Mo., dean's list for the March-May and May-July sessions. To be named to the dean's list a student must have completed 12 semester hours in a 16-week period and achieved a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a four-point scale.
