Hobbs to host full-moon kayaking

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will hold a full-moon kayaking trip at 7:30 to 9 p.m., Aug. 29 at Beaver Lake. Cost is $12 or $6 for children age 6-12. The fee includes use of a kayak, life jacket and paddle. To register call the park visitor center at 479-789-5000.

Squirrel cookoff seeks teams

Teams are being sought for the 2015 World Champion Squirrel Cookoff set for Sept. 12 in downtown Bentonville. The contest showcases the use of squirrel and other wild game in a variety of recipes. Recipes must be 80 percent squirrel meat. Up to three people can be on a team. Teams have 2.5 hours to cook their entry.

Entry fee is $75 per team. Profits are donated to various charities. For information visit www.squirrel cookoff.com.

Tournament to benefit area children

A nighttime buddy bass tournament to benefit area children in need will be held Aug. 29 at Beaver Lake.

Fishing is from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. Entry fee is $60 per boat if paid by this afternoon at the Toyota dealership at Fayetteville Auto Park, or $70 on tournament day. Guaranteed prize money is $1,000 for first, $500 for second, $300 for third and $300 for big bass.

Wolfgang tops Elite field

Brian Wolfgang won the Beaver Lake Elite Series bass tournament Saturday at Beaver Lake with five bass that weighed 9.7 pounds. Allen Westfall was second with five bass at 8.43 pounds.

Roger Harp placed third with five bass at 7.76 pounds. Burl Smith was fourth with five bass at 7.23 pounds. Daniel Nesbitt placed fifth with three bass at 5.63 pounds. Wes Usrey had big bass at 3.05 pounds.
