BELLA VISTA -- Katie McCloskey had her sights on a birdie when her tee shot fell 12 feet from the hole, but her first putt forced her to settle for par on her first hole Tuesday afternoon.

The Bentonville senior didn't allow that to happen on the next hole. McCloskey was more than 100 yards from the hole when her approach shot bounced one time on the green and fell in for a birdie during a match against Springdale Har-Ber at Berksdale Golf Course.

"The first hole was kind of rough for me," McCloskey said. "I think it was nerves with it being the first hole. I get it in my mind that I should do it perfectly, and then I end up not doing so good.

"On the second hole, my shots were all over the place. That chip -- I don't know where it came from -- but I thankful for that chip."

Bentonville's girls, in their first match since winning the Springdale Invitational two weeks ago, had no trouble in a win over Har-Ber. The Lady Tigers finished with a team score of 115 to the Lady Wildcats' 160.

Kate Robertson, who didn't play in Springdale because she was at a tournament in Oklahoma, chipped in for eagle on No. 9 and finished with a 1-over 37, good enough to tie teammate Maddie Weston for medalist honors. The Bentonville duo finished two shots ahead of Har-Ber's Joanna Keck, while McCloskey was next in line with a 41.

"It was a great outing," Bentonville coach Lindsey Davis said. "I'm excited for the girls. I'm looking forward to the season, and I think they will get better as the season goes on.

"We made the adjustments, and the girls have always liked this course. We've done a lot of practice on it, so that helps."

Bentonville's boys also claimed a convincing win in a match that was played on Berksdale's back nine but didn't enjoy as wide a margin as the girls did. The Tigers had a 154 team score to the Wildcats' 181.

Bruno Mariscotti had medalist honors with a 1-over 37, followed Bentonville teammates Will Remeschied with 38 and Nate Morey with 39. Kade Keith paced Har-Ber's golfers with a 41.

"We're just struggling for consistency right now," Har-Ber coach Tim Aynes said. "We have a young bunch, with only one senior on the top five. We're letting our bad shots cost us two or three strokes instead of costing us a bogey.

"You can live with bogeys, but across the board we're getting a double or a triple -- sometimes even higher than that. You can't have that and score well."

The match had originally been scheduled for Bella Vista Country Club but had to be moved because of the damage the greens have suffered from the weather.
