Authorities are searching for a man believed to have drowned in Lake Elmdale Sunday evening.

Cindy Meyers, who said she was the man's sister, identified him as Jesse Stigner of Springdale.

She said he had been at the lake to help fix a friend's boat. His puppy jumped in the water, and he followed, worried that the dog would be hit by the propeller, Meyers said.

The call came in about 7:10 p.m. Sunday. Searchers looked for the man until about 4 a.m. Monday, and resumed searching at about 9 a.m., said Lt. Bill Ruby with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He said 30 to 50 people were involved in the initial search.
