SPRINGDALE -- Police arrested a man in connection with the June robbery of a fireworks stand after he contacted police to confess.

Andrew Wallace, 21, who told police he was homeless, was arrested Sunday on connection with felony aggravated robbery. He had contacted the Fayetteville Police Department because he wanted to confess to the crime, according to a Springdale Police Department news release.

The Fayetteville Police Department contacted the Springdale Police Department on Sunday, according to the release. Fayetteville police then took Wallace to Springdale's Criminal Investigations Division.

Police responded to a robbery at Jake's Fireworks at 2:37 a.m. June 30, according to the offense report. Joseph Wood, who had been sleeping on a cot in the fireworks tent, told police two people robbed him.

The tent, run by the Knights of Columbus, is across the street from St. Raphael's Catholic Church, 1386 S. West End St.

Wood told police he was sleeping when two people woke him up, according to the report. One person put a hand on Wood's throat, had a knife and asked him where the money was. The two people bound Wood with duct tape and took $200 from the register, he told police. Wood also said they damaged a tablet computer, stole his cellphone and he heard them damage a laptop computer.

Wood told police he used his teeth to escape the duct tape bindings, according to the report. Wood told police he wasn't hurt during the incident.

When Wallace was interviewed Sunday, he gave details about the robbery that only the person who committed the crime would know, according to the release. Wallace gave a detective details about his actions during the robbery, according to the preliminary report form.

Wallace also told police he acted alone, and the victim was wrong about there being a second person involved, said Lt. Scott Lewis, public information officer for Springdale police, in an email.

"We have no reason to believe different at this time," he wrote. "We are not looking for any other suspects."

Wallace was in the Washington County Detention Center on Monday in lieu of $25,000 bond.
