NWA Fishing Report

BEAVER LAKE

Fishing is tough overall, but night owls are having success with the white bass and black bass.

Aaron Jolliff at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said anglers fishing at night along the Arkansas 12 bridge pilings are catching white bass and crappie under lights. Wait for baitfish to appear in the light, then use a white jig or minnow 10 feet deep.

Dark plastic worms or spinner baits work best for nighttime black bass fishing, he said.

White bass are biting for anglers trolling Flicker Shads. Striped bass fishing is slow. Fish deep with downriggers, Jolliff advised.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said some goodsized walleye to 26 inches have been caught in the Horseshoe Bend area by anglers trolling nightcrawler rigs behind bottom bouncers.

Crappie fishing has improved. Try tube jigs 15 to 18 feet deep around brush. The best color is a red or black body with a chartreuse tail.

BEAVER TAILWATER

Nancy Rose at the Beaver Dam Store said the top bait is yellow or white Power Bait. Worms are also working.

The top lures are Trout Magnets in white or pink, or small spoons in gold/silver or gold/red. Best flies are Clouser minnows and woolly buggers.
