Universities in state set spring graduations

Universities across the state have announced student graduation ceremonies set for May.

The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville will start commencement exercises a day early to accommodate a larger number of graduates, university spokesman Steve Voorhies said.

College of Education and Health Professions graduates will receive degrees at 3 p.m. May 8 in Bud Walton Arena.

The all-university commencement for graduate students from all colleges will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 9 in the arena.

The J.William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold its graduation exercises at 1 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena, while the Sam M. Walton College of Business will hold its ceremony at 1 p.m. in Barnhill Arena.

Commencement for the Fay Jones School of Architecture will start at 1 p.m. in the Arkansas Union Verizon Ballroom. College of Engineering graduates will receive degrees at 5 p.m. in Barnhill Arena, and the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences will hold its ceremony at the same time in Bud Walton Arena.

The University of Arkansas School of Law will host commencement exercises at 2 p.m. May 16 in the Fayetteville Town Center.

Henderson State University will host all spring commencement ceremonies May 8 for more than 400 undergraduate and graduate students, university spokesman Steve Fellers said.

The ceremony for the School of Business and Teachers College will begin at 3 p.m. in the Wells Center gymnasium, followed by the ceremony for the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences at 6 p.m.

Southern Arkansas University will host three commencement ceremonies May 8 for 483 graduation candidates, according to the university's website.

The Department of Nursing will honor graduates at 10 a.m. in the W.T. Watson Center, followed by a ceremony for the School of Graduate Studies at 2 p.m.

Undergraduates will receive degrees at 7 p.m. at the University Mall, weather permitting. If inclement weather occurs, the College of Business and the College of Science and Engineering will participate in a ceremony at 7 p.m. in the W.T. Watson Center, followed by an 8:30 p.m. ceremony for the College of Education and the College of Liberal and Performing Arts.

The University of Central Arkansas will host three graduation exercises May 2 in the Farris Center: 10 a.m. for the College of Education, College of Liberal ARts and College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; 1 p.m. for College of Business and College of Fine Arts and Communication; and 4 p.m. for College of Health and Behavioral Sciences.

Arkansas Tech University will split its commencement ceremonies into three different events over two days at Tucker Coliseum.

Graduate College will host its ceremony at 7 p.m. May 8. Students from the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Business and College of Education will receive degrees at 10 a.m. May 9 and students from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, College of Natural and Health Sciences and College of Professional Studies and Community Outreach, as well as those receiving associates degrees, will participate in a 2 p.m. ceremony.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host graduation exercises at 3 p.m. May 9 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center Arena.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will have two graduation ceremonies in the Jack Stephens Center on May 16, one at 9:30 a.m. for the College of Education and Health Professions and the College of Engineering and Information Technology, and one at 3 p.m. for the College of Business, College of Social Sciences and Communication and College of Arts, Letters and Sciences.

Arkansas State University at Jonesboro will host two commencement exercises for students at 10 a.m and 2:30 p.m. May 9 at the Convocation Center.

Students from the College of Education and Behavioral Science, College of Fine Arts, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Media and Communication and University College will participate in the first ceremony. The College of Agriculture and Technology, College of Business, College of Nursing and Health Professions and College of Sciences and Mathematics will give degrees at the second ceremony.

Ouachita Baptist University will host its commencement exercise at 9:30 a.m. May 9 on the front law of Cone-Bottoms Hall.

In case of inclement weather, the university will split the graduation into two ceremonies, one at 9:30 for the first half of the graduating class and one at 11:30 a.m. for the second half of the class, in Jones Performing Arts Center.
