Police say woman drew gun on Realtor in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- A woman pulled a gun on a Realtor and attempted to rob her while the agent showed a home for sale Friday morning, according to a preliminary police report.

The case is under investigation and the name of the Realtor and her company were not available Friday evening, spokesman Craig Stout wrote in an email.

A Realtor was showing 2402 Hidden Creek Drive to Amilya Dawn Barcenas, 25, of 181 S. Ray Ave., about 9:30 a.m., according to the report. When the agent stopped to prepare paperwork, Barcenas took a gun out of a diaper bag and pointed it at her, according to the report.

Barcenas, who called herself Makayla, threw a zip tie on the counter and told the agent to tie herself with it, but she refused, police said.

Barcenas then said she needed to go to an ATM and withdraw money, according to the report. When Barcenas put down her gun, the agent ran to a neighboring home, according to the report.

Police found Barcenas about 30 minutes later in a vehicle driven by a man whom she had asked for help, according to the report.

The man told police Barcenas had come to his home and asked for help finding her husband and small child, according to the report. Barcenas told police she asked for help finding her car, according to the report.

Barcenas was wearing clothing like what the Realtor described Makayla wearing, according to the report. Barcenas also had a diaper bag, in which police found a loaded .38 revolver, according to the report.

Barcenas was arrested in connection with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and second-degree criminal mischief. She had not been booked into the Washington County Detention Center by 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Realtor Beverly Carter of Scott was killed while showing a house this past September. Her body was found days later in a shallow grave near Cabot. Two people later were charged with capital murder and kidnapping.

Carter's death led to a national outcry over safety for real estate agents. Several local police departments began holding special sessions to teach agents how to be safer while showing homes, police spokesmen said last year.
