Police: Man drives wrong way on I-49, taken to hospital

FAYETTEVILLE — A Fayetteville man was taken to a hospital after police found him driving the wrong way on Interstate 49 at 3:20 a.m. Friday, according to Arkansas State Police.

Trammell S. Starr was driving a 2000 Honda Accord southbound in the northbound lanes of I-49 near Porter Road, according to an accident report. He was going from Springdale to Fayetteville, according to the report.

Starr’s age was not immediately available Friday.

Law enforcement were looking for Starr after several people called in about him driving against the traffic, according to the report.

Fayetteville Officer Remar B. Benson met Starr at Porter Road and partially blocked the road to stop him, according to the report. The left front of Starr’s car then hit the left front of the police car and caused minor damage to both, according to the report.

Starr was disoriented and not aware he was going the wrong way, according to the report. He was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center as a precaution but was released, according to state police.

Starr was cited for careless driving.
