Bentonville's Merchants Baseball Park dedication rescheduled for Saturday

BENTONVILLE -- The dedication ceremony for Merchants Baseball Park has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The baseball park is at 205 N.W. Elm Tree Road.

The dedication was supposed to be held April 18, but was rained out.

In 2013, the Bentonville Parks and Recreation Department started to renovate an old set of baseball fields behind Elm Tree Elementary School. New amenities such as a permanent concession/restroom facility, fencing, dugouts, bleachers, scoreboards, a parking lot and landscaping were added over the last two years, according to a news release.

In fall 2014, Bentonville Youth Baseball celebrated its 60th year. During preparation of the celebration, organizers learned the group that started the league was the semi-professional team Bentonville Merchants. The Parks Department renamed the facility Merchants Baseball Park to honor the team's contribution, the release stated.

Several original Merchants players are expected to attend Saturday's ceremony.

Bentonville Youth Baseball players will wear commemorative Bentonville Merchants jerseys and caps provide by the Bentonville Rotary Club. Games will begin at 10:30 a.m.
