Cemetery preservation lecture, workshop planned in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will present a free cemetery preservation lecture and hands-on workshop this week.

The lecture, at 6 p.m. Friday at Christian Life Cathedral, 1285 Millsap Road, includes information on cleaning and documenting gravestones as well as safety, repair and straightening techniques, material and tools and landscaping issues, according to a news release.

Rusty Brenner of Texas Cemetery Restoration will lead the hands-on workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stearns/Gehring Chapel Cemetery outside Christian Life Cathedral. The workshop will focus on how to clean tombstones from 9 a.m. to noon and how to re-set and repair tombstones from 1 to 4 p.m. Brenner also will provide instructions on cemetery maintenance, suitable cleaning products and proper techniques to use.

Registration is limited to the first 40 people to sign up.
