Broadway Bridge exit ramp to close

Preparations for replacing the Broadway Bridge over the Arkansas River that connects Little Rock and North Little Rock will require closing the bridge exit ramp used to access La Harpe Boulevard in Little Rock, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said.

The ramp is to be closed beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

Crews already have closed the bridge entrance ramp from westbound La Harpe Boulevard (also Arkansas 10) to northbound Broadway. They have also already closed a Little Rock parking area accessed by North Arch Street and a section of the Arkansas River Trail on the Little Rock side of the river.

The new Broadway Bridge will have La Harpe Boulevard ramps, but the department said there will be no direct bridge access to and from La Harpe until the new bridge is complete in late 2016.

The ramp closings are part of preliminary work that Massman Construction Co. of Kansas City, Mo., is doing under a $98.4 million contract to build the new bridge. The department awarded the contract to the company in September 2014.

The crossing is expected to be closed between May and November 2016 while the bridge is being replaced, the department said.
