Fayetteville added another run when Tyler scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

That was more than enough for Davenport, who tossed a one-hitter and struck out 16 and did not walk a batter to improve to 5-1

The right-hander, who signed to play at Central Arkansas, retired the final 21 Heritage hitters, after allowing Chase Kilgore's lead-off triple in the top of the first inning.

Fayetteville coach Vance Arnold said his team made the plays it needed to in order to win and Davenport was outstanding.

"He's pitched that well a couple of other times this year, but tonight he was just dominating," Arnold said. "We had a hustle play to start the sixth to get on and he had to come to Tyler on a 3-2 pitch and he put a good swing on it.

"It was a good high school baseball game. Both sides pitched well."

Heritage coach Keith Kilgore was pleased with how his team played overall, specifically pitcher Ty Harris (2-3) The left-hander, an Arkansas signee, allowed just two runs (one earned) on two hits in pitching the complete game. He struck out seven and walked one.

"Give Ty credit, he pitched well," Kilgore said. "But we had an opportunity early when Chase gets a hit. Just unfortunate we got him on third base with nobody out and we couldn't get him in. They came up with a big hit. It was a timely hit. I'm proud of the way the kids battled in the second ballgame."

Andy Pagnozzi did his part on the mound and at the plate to help take the opener.

The Ole Miss signee tossed a three-hitter and struck out 11. Heritage put a runner as far as second base just twice in the game.

Blake Power got the Purple'Dogs all the runs they would need with a solo home run in the bottom of the second off Heritage starter Kacey Murphy (2-2). Fayetteville then took control with four runs on just two hits in the third and four more in the fourth.

Tyler and Davenport was also strong at the plate. Tyler went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored. Davenport went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
