After delay, Fleetwood Mac to play Sunday at Verizon

"On With the Show," Fleetwood Mac calls its current tour, even though the legendary band's Arkansas show, originally scheduled for March 11, was postponed due to an unspecified illness that afflicted a band member, the identity of whom was never announced.

So, it's on with the show for sure this weekend, at 8 p.m. Sunday at Verizon Arena.

The tickets bought for the March 11 show will of course still be good, and there remain tickets, priced at $174, $140, $106.50, $73.50 and $52.50.

The big news for Fleetwood Mac fans, many of whom saw the band's central Arkansas shows in May 2013 (and possibly even in June 1977), is that Christine McVie has returned to the band after a 17-year absence. She had first joined in 1970, gave up just the touring part for a time, and then quit the band altogether in 1998.

The band now features her again on keyboards and vocals; her ex-husband, John McVie, on bass; Stevie Nicks on vocals; Mick Fleetwood on drums; and Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals.

Singer-songwriter David Roth, veteran of several central Arkansas shows at the now-defunct Acoustic Sounds Cafe, returns for a performance from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church.

Roth recently wrote original music for a musical production, Joey's Journey, about the history of North Little Rock's St. Joseph Orphanage, where Benedictine nuns raised hundreds of children in the 20th century. The facility is now named the St. Joseph Center of Arkansas, and funds raised by the sold-out musical production will go to the preservation of the former orphanage.

Tim Sparks will perform on acoustic guitar at 7:30 p.m. today at The Joint as part of the monthly Argenta Acoustic Music series.

Sparks, a fingerstyle guitarist from Minneapolis, is known for having adapted Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite for the guitar, and it earned him the 1993 National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kan.

Legendary guitarist Leo Kottke has praised Sparks, saying, "I'm Tim Sparks' biggest fan. His stuff is very difficult to play but it doesn't sound difficult. I think that's real musicianship. He's really one of the best musicians I know. You can hear [him] think. He plays by choice, not habit, ideas not licks. I've heard him do this on guitars so badly intonated they wouldn't make a good ashtray."

Tickets are $20. The shows in the series are held monthly on the third Thursday night during 2015, except in December.
