Basketball: Bentonville's Martin signs with John Brown

BENTONVILLE -- Jordan Martin made her dream come true Thursday morning.

The Bentonville senior guard, who said she's wanted to play basketball at John Brown since she began attending camps there in the fifth and sixth grades, made it become a reality when she signed her national letter of intent with the Lady Golden Eagles.

"Going to camps there at John Brown, it made me realize how much I loved the school, the coaches and the atmosphere there," Martin said. "Ever since then, that was the school I wanted to attend, and there was no doubt in my mind."

Martin, who was named the girls basketball Player of the Year by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette earlier this week, verbally committed to JBU before the season started. That never wavered, even though she drew interest from NCAA Division II schools West Florida and Hawaii Pacific.

The 5-foot-8 Martin finished the season as the Lady Tigers' leading scorer with an average of 14.6 points per game and earned all-state and all-state tournament honors. She also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while hitting 46.4 percent (131 of 282) of her field-goal attempts and 73.2 percent (93 of 127) from the free-throw line.
