Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale is offering its fourth annual Secondary Career & Technical Education Open House for area high school students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday. More than 600 area high school students are scheduled to attend the event.

Students will have the opportunity to tour NTI and observe different types of vocational training and lab demonstrations. They will also learn about the educational opportunities available at NTI for both secondary and post-secondary students.

Destiny Hutchings of Rogers has received the Diana & Robert Carter Scholarship for First-Year Business Students for the 2014-15 school year. Hutchings is a freshman at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

The scholarship carries a $500 for the fall and spring semesters. The scholarship is for incoming freshmen or transfer students majoring in business.

Hutchings can renew the scholarship for up to three years by maintaining at 3.0 grade-point average or better.

Melanie Pickering, a junior from Bentonville, has been chosen for the 2014 Oklahoma State University Homecoming Steering Committee.

Pickering is a human development and family sciences child life specialist major at OSU. She is the daughter of Kevin and Molly Pickering.

While serving on the committee, she will help coordinate the annual Harvest Festival to benefit children in Stillwater, Okla., and the surrounding area. The committee is made up of 62 students who are also responsible for putting on the annual homecoming festivities.

Lilly Potter of Middleburg, Va., the granddaughter of Ervin and Daisy Potter of Hogeye, was accepted to an elite U.S. State Department program to travel to Singapore and Malaysia for four weeks this summer. Potter was one of 20 high school students chosen for the 2014 American Youth Leadership Program.

She is a student at Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Va., and is the daughter of Jeffrey and Donna Potter.

• Laddie DeGrand of Rogers was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications; Jacob Grelle of Rogers earned a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education (mathematics); and Martha Bartell of Eureka Springs earned a bachelor of arts degree in English during spring commencement exercises at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. This year, 211 candidates were honored during the ceremonies, which featured Helen Alvare, noted speaker on women and the family for the Vatican, who delivered the commencement address.

Grelle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Grelle, was also named to the President's List for the spring semester.

Founded in 1858, Benedictine College is a Catholic, Benedictine, residential liberal arts college located on the bluffs above the Missouri River in Atchison. The school was named one of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News & World Report as well as one of the top Catholic colleges in the nation by First Things magazine and the Newman Guide.

• Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia has announced the graduation of 58 master's students at this year's summer graduation ceremonies. Among them were Rebekah Davis of Fayetteville, who earned a master of education degree; Theodore Farah of Fayetteville, who earned a master of arts in teaching degree; and Judith Gaughan of Farmington, who earned a master of education degree.

This fall, Southern Arkansas University has more than 3,500 students enrolled on its Magnolia campus, breaking enrollment records.

• Brittany Elaine Hawkins of Bentonville recently graduated from Wheaton (Ill.) College with a bachelor of arts in anthropology with a minor in history.

Wheaton College, located in Wheaton, Ill., is a coeducational Christian liberal arts college noted for its consistent ranking among the top liberal arts colleges in the country.

• Annamica Reding, a psychology major from Omaha, Ark., has been named to the University of Dallas Dean's List for the spring 2014 semester for earning a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

The University of Dallas, located in a metropolitan area of nearly 7 million people, is a leading Catholic university widely recognized for academic excellence by well-known publications, organizations and accrediting bodies.

• The University of Arkansas at Little Rock recently announced its May 2014 Dean's List.

Students must have at least nine credit hours with a grade of A, B, C, or "credit" and at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Included on the list were Connor Young of Springdale; Alexandria Craig of Fayetteville; Stephanie Warner of Fayetteville; Emily Bruner of Bentonville; Katie Vanpool of Rogers; Elizabeth McCartan of Rogers; Kimberly Gresham of Pea Ridge; and Maxwell Hartman of Pea Ridge.

Aaron Hawley of Rogers graduated in May from Drake University with a bachelor of science in business administration from the College of Business & Public Administration.

Drake University is a midsized private university in Des Moines, Iowa. Drake enrolls more than 3,300 undergraduates and 1,900 graduate students from 47 states and more than 45 countries.

• Among students graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in May were Matthew Blair of Fayetteville; Stephanie Warner of Fayetteville; Olivia Perry of Fayetteville; Jessica McWilliams of Springdale; Kevin Litchfield of Fayetteville; Keenan Allen of Elkins; Kyle Page of Bella Vista; and Jennifer Bradley of Rogers.

Anne Mitchell of Fayetteville has been named to the dean's list for the winter/spring terms at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average.

Mitchell is the daughter of Jim and Shannon Mitchell of Fayetteville and is a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

Centre College, founded in 1819, is a nationally ranked liberal arts college in Danville, Ky.

• Among students named to the spring 2014 Dean's List at Wake Forest University were Hannah Breden of Fayetteville; Byron McClendon of Fayetteville; and Sarah Stark of Fayetteville.

Founded in 1834, Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, N.C.

• Among more than 750 graduates who received a diploma at Harding University's commencement exercises in May were Todd Johnson of Fayetteville, who received a doctor of pharmacy degree; Bobbi Krizan of Springdale, who received a doctor of pharmacy degree; Leann Wilkinson of Springdale, who received a doctor of pharmacy degree; and Jared Cleveland of Springdale, who received a doctor of education in educational leadership degree.

Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,295 students. Local residents graduate from Harding University

Northwest Technical Institute's practical nursing program achieved a 100 percent pass rate for five consecutive years on the NCLEX licensing exam. NTI's nursing program is the only nursing program in the state of Arkansas with five consecutive years of 100 percent pass rate on this exam. The program has produced 200 LPNs into the community during that time frame. NTI's practical nursing program has an overall pass rate off 99.4 percent over the last 10 years.

The practical nursing program is an 18 month program.
