• Pope Francis hailed the value of the elderly, including his predecessor Benedict XVI, who joined him at a ceremony in St. Peter's Square honoring the contributions of grandparents to society, and lamented that they are often "forgotten, hidden, neglected."

• David Cameron, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, vowed in a BBC interview to never again mention his conversations with Queen Elizabeth II, which are traditionally kept private, after he was caught on microphone last week commenting on the queen's reaction to the Scottish independence vote.

• Hans Peter Naumann, 48, of Germany was arrested in Indonesia after customs officials said he was trying to smuggle 8.4 ounces of cocaine onto the resort island of Bali, hidden inside his underwear and stomach.

• Cynthia Adams, 52, a Boise, Idaho, woman who disappeared last week, has been found, disoriented but alive, in the small Mississippi town where her father was once a minister in the 1960s and told police she didn't know how she got there.

• George Byrd IV, 31, of Penndel, Pa., told a judge that he shot a bullet through a neighbor's window because it was the only way he knew how to unload the gun, Middletown detective Patrick Nicastro said.

• Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, during a governors delegation trip to Afghanistan, said the United States needs to do more to discourage the expansion of terrorism, while promising to increase security measures in New York state.

• Calvin McCauley, 21, an Indiana State University student, was arrested in the shooting of another student, who is expected to make a full recovery, in a residence hall stairwell at the Terre Haute campus.

• Grisel Jaramillo got back her family's Yorkshire terrier, Bailey, after Pam Hardy spotted him walking down a road in Indianapolis six years after he disappeared in Austin, Texas, about 1,100 miles away.

• Caius Veiovis, a Massachusetts man who has bumps resembling horns implanted in his forehead, was convicted of helping kidnap and kill three men and yelled expletives at the Springfield jurors after the verdict was announced.

• Sean Greene, the Centerville, Mass., fire captain, said two skydivers were injured when they crashed into a building at Cape Cod Airfield in Marston Mills, which was outside their designated landing area, during a tandem jump.
