BBBBQ: Third Day Ended With Increased Crime, Wrecks

FAYETTEVILLE -- Crime and wrecks increased through Sunday at the Bikes, Blues & BBQ festival.

The festival ended Sunday with nine motorcycle accidents, 12 citations, 10 alcohol-related complaints, nine arrests, three disturbances, three verbal disturbances, two assaults, two motorcycles stolen, two theft reports, and one report for each: attempted rape, unpermitted vendor, report of a prowler, motorcycle on fire, motorcycle drove off roadway, motorcycles speeding and road rage.

The exact charges of the festival-related arrests weren't available from the Fayetteville Police Department on Sunday.

The three disturbances happened at West Spring Street and North Block Street, 324 W. Dickson St. Suite 2 and 330 N. West Ave, according to dispatch calls at the Fayetteville Police Department.

In the Spring Street and Block Street disturbance about 11:30 p.m., a man was reportedly stalked by another man while leaving the event. He told police the man following him tried to fight him and punched his vehicle, according to the dispatch calls.

During the Dickson Street disturbance at 1:05 a.m., a 25-year-old man was attacked by a bouncer and suffered cuts to his face, according to police.

In the West Avenue disturbance, two men tried to fight one another about 1:10 a.m. but left before police arrived, according to police reports.

Among the three verbal disturbances, one citation was issued and in the other two instances, those involved were gone when police arrived.

Five additional complaints about disturbances were reported to police, but formal reports weren't filed.

The two assaults happened at 2537 N. McConnell Ave. and 324 W. Dickson Street.

In the McConnell Avenue assault about 7 p.m., a 16-year-old girl was assaulted by a 55-year-old biker, according to the reports at the Police Department.

In the assault at Dickson Street around 2 a.m., a man told police another man beat him, according to police. No life-threatening injuries were reported and the man wasn't taken to the hospital.

Two motorcycles were stolen -- one at 281 N. Platinum Drive Apt. 4 and the other at North St. Charles Avenue and West Watson Street, according to dispatch calls. A black, Harley-Davidson Electric Glide Classic was stolen at the Platinum Address and a red Harley-Davidson with a Kansas license plate from the other address.

Two thefts were reported.

One theft happened about 1:30 p.m. at 611 W. Dickson St. The caller told police that three rings, which were valued at $10,000, were stolen from his motorcycle. One theft occurred about 1:30 a.m. at North Locust Avenue and West Dickson Street, according to dispatch calls. Money was stolen from a guitar case belonging to a man playing music on Dickson Street.

A woman told police a man tried to give her a date-rape pill at the event, according to the Police Department. Police couldn't locate the man.

An unpermitted vendor was selling items at 326 N. West Ave. Suite 8, according to police.

A man called police and told him that two bikers, a man and woman, were outside his residence at 340 N. Campbell Ave. Apt. 8 banging on the door. When the man asked who was there, there was no response and the people fled, according to police.

One motorcycle caught fire about 8 p.m. at North West Avenue and West Dickson Street. No phone calls were returned regarding this fire.

The man who drove his motorcycle off the road damaged the left side of his bike, but he wasn't injured, according to dispatch calls.

A woman told police that a biker flipped her off on College Avenue, and when she returned the gesture, he got mad and began following her, according to dispatch calls.

The car keys were found by a Fayetteville officer at 703 W. Dickson St.

Five of the motorcycle accidents were reported in Fayetteville, three in Springdale and two in Rogers. Firefighters in Bentonville said no motorcycle accidents were reported in the city.

• A vehicle hit a motorcycle at West Dickson Street and North Arkansas Avenue about 5 p.m., according to dispatch calls. The biker wasn't injured nor taken to a hospital. The driver of the vehicle was written a citation.

• An accident involving only one motorcycle from Oklahoma was reported at South Razorback Road and West Indian Trail about 5:35 p.m., according to dispatch calls. Police didn't return calls regarding this accident.

• An accident involving only one motorcycle was reported at West Center Street and North School Avenue about 8:15 p.m., according to the Police Department. A 65-year-old man had an ankle injury as a result, but wasn't taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

• A van hit motorcycles and then rear-ended a truck at East North Street and North College Avenue about 7 p.m., according to the Police Department. Witnesses told police people were possibly trapped under the van. Another caller told police about three people were injured. Police didn't return calls regarding this wreck.

• A car hit an unoccupied, antique motorcycle at 3364 N. College Ave. about 3:20 p.m. Witnesses told police the accident happened at the front of the business, and the car dragged the motorcycle behind the business and then left the scene. No injuries were reported.

• Among the accidents in Springdale, one happened around 5 p.m., one about 7 p.m. and the third about 8 p.m., according to Springdale Fire Department, Station 1. Details regarding the accidents were unavailable, as reports were completed Sunday evening.

• In Rogers, a vehicle hit a motorcycle on Arkansas 12, said Chief David Whitlow of the Rogers Police Department. A man was driving the motorcycle and had a female passenger. Both had minor injuries and weren't taken to a hospital, Whitlow said.
