Rogers Hall Of Fame Inductees To Be Honored

ROGERS -- Rogers High had a little extra help at the coin toss before the Mounties 7A-West Conference opener against Springdale Har-Ber on Friday as the seven inductees of the 2014 class of the Rogers High Mountaineers Athletic Hall of Fame were all honorary captains.

It was familiar territory for former Mounties football player Alan Davidson.

Davidson started 19 conference games at fullback for Rogers from 1969-1971 and the Mounties won all 19 of those games. Rogers also won three conference championships with Davidson in uniform and that is another reason Davidson will be among seven people inducted into the Rogers High Mountaineers Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend.

Davidson, Dickie West, Mindy Wishon-Brown, Charlie Johnston, Gary Jackson, Tom Olsen and Dr. Tom Woodruff were all recognized before the game and they will be officially inducted tonight at a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $5.

"Alan was a great fullback," said teammate Barney Hayes. "He was a big kid, 225 or so, with a lot of speed for that time period."

Davidson was elevated to the varsity after the junior high season ended in 1968 and rushed for over 100 yards while scoring two touchdowns in a 26-0 victory over Mountain Home. He started at fullback 18 times in the eighth and ninth grades and Rogers won all 18 contests.

As a junior, Davidson scored three touchdowns as then Class AA Rogers defeated then Class AAAA North Little Rock Northeast 33-7 in a nonconference game.

Davidson earned All-Conference and All-State honors his senior season as the Mounties were 26-6-1, including 19-0, during his time at Rogers.
