Parsons Stadium hosts carnival, demo derby

The power switch turns on Wednesday for the Fall Fest Carnival at Parsons Stadium in Springdale.

Pride Amusements of Joplin, Mo., will bring 17 rides, carnival games and food vendors, including a tractor ride and other new rides for the children's section, says owner Ed Burlingame.

Armbands for unlimited rides cost $20 Wednesday and Thursday and $25 Oct. 3, Oct. 4 and Oct. 5. Single tickets also are available for $1 each, with most rides requiring three or four tickets, Burlingame says.

The dips and swirls, spins and screams run from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Oct. 3, 4 to 11 p.m. Oct. 4 and 4 to 10 p.m. Oct. 5.

Inside the rodeo arena Oct. 4, the 2014 Fall Demolition Derby of the Ozarks at Parsons Stadium adds thunderous roars and banging crashes to the carnival atmosphere. As many as 48 people will turn their cars in the direction of others for a chance at at $10,000 purse. As a new attraction, the derby will include a category for kids, with registration currently available at AAF and Sam's Furniture in Springdale. The derby starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for children ages 2 to 12 and $12 for adults. Tickets purchased before the day of show include a $2 discount.

The carnival and demolition derby benefit the Springdale Benevolent Foundation.
