Not guilty plea in fatal Washington County crash

A Lincoln man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony negligent homicide related to a car wreck that killed his passenger.

Kevin Fair Cain, 40, was given a Nov. 24 trial date in Washington County Circuit Court.

Danielle Bishop, 34, was a passenger in a 1994 Chevrolet pickup driven by Cain. The accident happened about 10:45 p.m. Aug. 27 just north of the Washington and Crawford county line on Arkansas 59.

Cain was northbound when he veered off the road into the ditch on the east side, over-corrected and traveled back across the road and hit an embankment on the west side of the highway head-on, according to a State Police report. The vehicle then caught fire.

Bishop was unable to get out of the vehicle and was badly burned in the fire. Attempts to resuscitate her at the scene were unsuccessful, according to the report.

An arrest report said Cain was slurring his speech and could hardly stand. A breath test indicated Cain hadn’t been drinking but he later told police he had taken Hydrocodone and Klonopin.

Cain is also charged with reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license, both misdemeanors.

Cain is free on bond while awaiting trial.
