Bella Vista Council Meets Tonight

BELLA VISTA -- The City Council will discuss on first reading the rezoning of property at 1265 Forest Hills Blvd. to light industrial from neighborhood commercial at 6:30 tonight.

The meeting will be in the lower level of Highlands Crossing.

The Planning Commission, at its Sept. 18 meeting, recommended the council deny the zoning change after voting 3-3 on the issue. The commission's policy calls for a denial of a rezoning request in the case of a tie vote.

The council could vote to affirm the commission's recommendation, to overturn it or to return the issue to the commission for further review, said Chris Suneson, planning director.

The council will also discuss a resolution to enter into a contract for drainage improvements along Dogwood Drive, Annette Lane and Tiffany Lane. It will consider entering into a cost-share agreement with the Bella Vista Townhouse Association on the project.

The council will hear on third and final reading ordinances to the fire code, establishing a drug free workplace and code procedures related to Planning Commission-initiated amendments to the zoning code. It also will hear on second reading an ordinance providing penalties for damage and for failure to return books and other materials belonging to the Bella Vista Public Library as well as ordinances on the discharge of contaminants into the stormwater drainage system and electrical code requirements.
