BATESVILLE -- Independence County authorities sent human remains found near Thida to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock on Monday in an attempt to identify the person, Sheriff Steve Jeffery said.
A fisherman found the remains Saturday evening in a lake near Thida in the southeastern corner of the county. Sheriff's investigators and dive team members, along with the Independence County coroner, recovered the body Sunday morning, Jeffery said in a news release.
Divers searched the lake for "further evidence," Jeffery said in the release.
He said the victim's gender and identity is not known. The cause of death is also unknown, Jeffery said.
