Fayetteville Woman Found Dead After Fire

FAYETTEVILLE -- A woman died early Sunday morning in a fire at a townhouse at 406 Highland Ave.

"Her body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy," Roger Morris, Washington County coroner, said Monday.

The crime lab will do blood work, a toxicology report and other tests to determine the cause of death, said Mauro Campos, Battalion Chief with the city Fire Department.

Officials did not release the identity of the woman.

She was found lying on the living room floor, Campos said. No one else was in the residence.

When firefighters arrived, the home was filled with heavy, dark smoke, Campos said. Smoke lines remained on the walls after the smoke was ventilated, Campos said.

The fire was contained to her residence and didn't damage any of the other townhomes, Campos said.

"The investigation is still open," Campos said. "We don't actually have a cause right now, but may know by Wednesday," Campos said.
