Public Viewpoint: An Inquiring Mind Asks

Jimmy Hickey wants to hire a consulting firm to learn why lottery ticket sales.

in Arkansas have dipped the last two years, but I can tell him for free. The stated purpose of the lottery is to further education in Arkansas and it is working: Folks who WERE buying lottery tickets are now getting smarter.

John Lewis and the Congressional Black Caucus plan to exploit the Ferguson protests to try to mobilize black voters in Arkansas to elect a Democratic senator. They are even enlisting black NBA players to help in the effort. What does the Congressional White Caucus think about it? Oh, right, there isn’t one — that would be racist.

Benton County officials want voters to approve a property tax increase and/ or a $40 fee to fund rural ambulance service, but no one has said what happens to those of us in the Nebco area if either passes. Are ambulance runs then free if we ever actually use the service? Does the $100 Nebco fee disappear from our property tax statements replaced by a $40 fee? Do both fees disappear with the millage increase? Or do we just get double taxation for a service we’ve never used? My inquiring mind wants to know before I vote.
