PEACEKEEPERS' PROOF

Feeling peaceful and easy part of Cocktails for a Cause

Graphing social change, it doesn't look like concentric ripples unfurling from a splash, or even a spider web. They're not 360-degree visuals. They're more like constellations. Asymmetrical, with long tails.

Such was the case at Cocktails for a Cause on Aug. 26, a small recruitment meeting for Peacekeepers, a volunteer group supporting the Women and Children First shelter in Little Rock.

Jessica Sorg has been a Peacekeeper four years. She brought Nikki King into the fold a year ago. Sorg is married to Blake, who, this time, brought Tony Wilson, whom he works with, and his wife, Denise.

It's a small "movement," but the five of them represented a substantial contingent of attendees this night.

How did Jessica Sorg get involved?

"If you ever go to the shelter, and you ever see the children there, you'll want to get involved."

Peacekeepers has raised about $100,000 between its last two events, Caribbean Cabaret in the spring and Vegas on the Rocks last fall.

Women and Children First provides shelter for survivors of domestic violence and is a United Way agency.
