Small Museum Grants Awarded

BENTONVILLE -- The Peel Compton Foundation in Bentonville, the Arkansas Country Doctor Museum in Lincoln and the Tontitown Historical Museum were among 22 organizations across the state receiving a Small Arkansas Museum grant, it was announced Friday.

The grants ranged from $2,119 to $2,500 for each institution and were announced during a ceremony at Trapnall Hall in Little Rock, according to a news release.

Presenting the grants were Kathy Holt, deputy director for museums of the Department of Arkansas Heritage; Mark Christ, chairman of the Arkansas Humanities Council, and Paul Austin, executive director of the Arkansas Humanities Council. This is the fifth year the agencies have partnered to pay for and administer the grant program targeted at small Arkansas museums.

To be eligible, applicants had to be nonprofit museums or historical societies with annual operating budgets of up to $250,000 and at least one staff person, either paid or unpaid. Staff time must be devoted primarily to the care of the museum and its collection, and the museum must be open to the public at least 90 days per year.

The deadline for applications for the next cycle is May 1. For more information on the grant process, call the Arkansas Humanities Council at 501-320-5761.
