On The Move

Eureka Springs gallery postpones September shows

Eureka Fine Art Gallery is moving to a new location.

In a Sept. 2 email, Denise Ryan, an artist with the gallery, says the new address is 2 Pine St., Suite Y, which is located at the corner of Spring and Pine streets in Eureka Springs. Eureka Fine Art Gallery features artists who have lived and worked in Eureka Springs for years, and the gallery is run entirely by the artists themselves, according to eurekafineartgallery.com. She says the phone, website and hours of operation will remain the same. Ryan says there are plans to open the new space on or before Sept. 13. The September exhibits for Carol Dickie and Drew Gentle have been postponed, and new dates have not yet been set, she adds. The gallery also has lost some of its artists because the new space is smaller.

"This is painful for us because they all feel like family and are all friends," Ryan says.

Ryan says the space at 63 N. Main St. was lost because "the rent went up high enough to make us feel vulnerable as the bleak and harsh winter last year is still fresh in our memory."

"We decided that the Spring and Pine streets area was much more likely to bring in the public as that part of town is so much busier. Our rent there is half what it was," Ryan says. "By making this move, as difficult as it has been, we have improved our chances of survival."
