The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s enrollment has topped 26,000 students for the first time, school officials announced Wednesday.
Fall enrollment totaled 26,301 students as of Tuesday, a 3.8 percent increase from the previous fall, Chancellor G. David Gearhart announced. The university said in a statement that the growth reflects improvement in its academic quality and student diversity.
“There is no question that we have grown quickly over the last several years,” Gearhart said in a statement. “This is not by accident, but part of a long-term plan we put in place to increase the size, quality and academic reputation of the university. Improving our graduation and retention rates will be a major point of emphasis for us between now and 2021.”
UA enrollment has risen by 37 percent percent, or 7,100 students, since 2008.
