Science Guy Nye sets lecture at UA

Science lecturer Bill Nye will speak at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville as part of the university’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

Nye, known as the Science Guy, will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at Barnhill Arena. No tickets are required and the lecture is open to the public.

Nye starred in the award-winning youth television show Bill Nye the Science Guy from 1993 through 1998. In addition to further work on television, Nye has written several books on science.

Before his television career, Nye worked for about 12 years as an engineer with Boeing.

Speakers in UA’s Distinguished Lecture Series are chosen by a committee of students, faculty and staff members. A student-approved fee pays for events in the series. Nye will be paid $45,000 plus travel expenses, according to UA spokesman Steve Voorhies.
