Volunteers Sought For Fayetteville Creek Cleanup

FAYETTEVILLE -- The Beaver Watershed Alliance is seeking volunteers to help pick up trash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday along the Town Branch in south Fayetteville.

The stream is a tributary of the West Fork of the White River, which flows into Beaver Lake, the drinking water source for the majority of Northwest Arkansas residents.

Several stretches of Town Branch had never been part of organized cleanups prior to four efforts earlier this year, according to John Pennington, executive director of the alliance. He said volunteers collected approximately 3,000 pounds of plastic bottles, aluminum, foam and other trash during the cleanups.

Check-in for Saturday's event is at the Walker Park Softball Pavilion.

Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and wear old clothes and shoes. Trash bags will be provided. Food will be served and door prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
