Mount Kessler BioBlitz Planned

FAYETTEVILLE -- The University of Arkansas Entomology Department, Northwest Arkansas Land Trust and Fayetteville Natural Heritage Association will host a 24-hour Mount Kessler "BioBlitz" beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event is an opportunity for biologists, students and volunteers to help document all of the different types of flora and fauna on Mount Kessler.

No experience is necessary. Volunteers can participate as long as they like. They will be assigned various tasks, including helping to net insects, transporting specimens and handing out refreshments.

Event headquarters will be at the former Ozark Mountain Smokehouse, 1725 Smokehouse Road. Volunteers can report to headquarters anytime between 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday or between 8 a.m. and noon Sunday. On-site camping is available.

Appropriate outdoor clothing and closed-toed shoes are encouraged.
