Minimum Wage Debate Solved

There are those who feel we should raise (even double) the minimum wage and those who don't. I believe I have a solution that should satisfy everyone if they are truly sincere in their belief in this matter.

If you are for an increased wage, enter your name in a national directory that would be posted online. Whenever you go shopping at a business that has raised wages, the manager can look up your name and you will be charged an appropriate addition on your purchase. That means, the ones who want an increase will pay for it, those who don't want the increase won't pay for it, the business won't have to bear the cost, and the workers will be paid the increase.

Everybody's happy, right ?

An Erroneous Quote

On Oct. 7, Sandy Wylie wrote complaining that "erroneous utterances" continue to be reprinted.

Snopes.com is a good source check online.

Last year, I pointed out to the Bentonville Senior Center that the huge quote newly mounted on the wall was great, but it was Illinois Sen. Adlai Stevenson who said it, not Abraham Lincoln. I gave them a copy of the graduation speech containing the quote.

A year later it remains unchanged. It doesn't hurt anyone, but I'm sure some will copy it down and pass it on, thus perpetrating the error evermore.
