ABF Freight president Slagle retires

Fort Smith-based ArcBest Corp. on Thursday announced that ABF Freight System Inc. President and CEO Roy Slagle retired Wednesday.

Slagle, who worked for the company 37 years, will be succeeded as president by Tim Thorne, effective immediately, the company said in a statement. Slagle, 60, who held a number of executive positions before becoming ABF Freight president in 2012, had been with the corporation since 1976 and worked in field operations positions in Ohio and Pennsylvania before taking on roles such as treasurer and a regional sales executive.

Slagle succeeded Wesley Kemp, who retired at the end of the 2011 as part of a corporate policy limiting the age of executives to under 65 years old.

"Roy's retirement is well-deserved after nearly four decades at ABF Freight," ArcBest President and CEO Judy McReynolds said in a statement. "Over the years, Roy has helped guide ABF Freight through numerous challenges and successes. We wish him and his wife Karen all the best as they enjoy the fruits of retirement."
