ROTC at UAM to move to UAPB

PINE BLUFF -- The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello is consolidating and moving to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, UAM officials have announced.

The UAM Army ROTC program has been governed by UAPB since 2004. A reason for the consolidation hasn't been given.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Foster, who oversees ROTC at UAPB, said Friday that he wouldn't be able to release further details about the issue until "we speak to everyone involved."

The transition will occur during the spring 2015 semester, when UAM students who want to participate in ROTC will begin attending classes at UAPB, a news release from the university in Monticello said.

"While we regret the decision, we understand the need to consolidate the program on the Pine Bluff campus," UAM Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jimmie Yeiser said in the news release.

"We have considered it an honor to have the Army ROTC presence on our campus and will work to assist ROTC students during this time of change. I plan to meet with ROTC students in the near future to assure them that UAM will continue to support their academic needs during spring registration, the ensuing spring semester and for the duration of the ROTC presence on our campus."
