David Furr entered an innocent plea and waived arraignment through Fort Smith attorney Rex Chronister on felony charges of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of less than an ounce of hydrocodone with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Furr, 50, was arrested Nov. 19 after a traffic stop in Barling, according to a probable-cause affidavit by Barling police officer Keith Lindley.

Furr lives in Fort Smith but has a general practice clinic in Roland, Okla., about 5 miles west of Fort Smith.

During the stop, Furr was arrested on a warrant issued Nov. 12 charging him with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor, the affidavit stated. Furr gave consent to search his vehicle, during which the officer found a backpack containing misbranded and mislabeled drugs, .45-caliber and .40-caliber handguns, and $4,265 in cash.

He was booked into the Sebastian County jail but was released after posting a $30,000 bond, which included the $5,000 bond on the domestic battery charge.

Furr was scheduled to appear in Fort Smith District Court on Monday for arraignment on the domestic battery charge, but court records show Chronister last Monday waived arraignment and entered an innocent plea.
