Trial Reset In Fatal Springdale Wreck

FAYETTEVILLE -- The negligent homicide case of a Springdale man, related to a fatal Aug. 13 car crash, was reset Monday in Washington County Circuit Court.

Police said Gustavo Escalante, 20, of 580 E. Randall Wobbe Lane Apt. 10-104, lost control and flipped his Chevrolet Trail-Blazer about 4 a.m. near the railroad tracks at East Meadow Avenue and South Commercial Street in Springdale. Escalante was not injured.

Eliseo Landa-Zamora, 18, died after being ejected from the vehicle, according to Springdale police.

Escalante told police he had been drinking and was driving the vehicle. Escalante registered 0.11 on a breath test, 0.08 is considered intoxicated.

The case was delayed because the Arkansas State Crime Lab has not completed testing evidence. Escalante was given a new trial date of Feb. 17. Escalante is free on bond awaiting trial.
