Cat and dog killed in Pea Ridge fire

A cat and dog died in a house fire at 8:30 a.m. Monday at 280 Washburn Drive in Pea Ridge. No one else was injured, said Jamie Baggett, Pea Ridge fire chief.

The family was not home at the time, Baggett said.

Police saw heavy smoke pouring from the brick home’s eaves and called for help. Firefighters from several departments contained the blaze in about an hour, but half the home burned, Baggett said. The entire home suffered smoke damage, he said.

Baggett did not know whether the home was rented, but Christine Bott, of Pea Ridge, is listed as the homeowner, according to Benton County property records. The 1,261-square-foot house is valued at $85,750.

Baggett did not have a cost estimate for damages from the fire Monday. The fire is under investigation, he said.

Rogers, Northeast Benton County Volunteer and Avoca fire departments also helped with the fire.
