UPDATE: Patrick still head coach at Springale

UPDATE: Springdale Public Schools communications director Rick Schaeffer retracted his earlier statement that Springdale High football coach Shane Patrick had been reassigned within the school district Wednesday.

“It has not happened yet,” Schaeffer said late Wednesday afternoon.

Patrick did meet with SPS athletic director Wayne Stehlik on Wednesday afternoon. Patrick declined to speculate on whether he expected to be reassigned, but expressed confidence in his coaching status.

“Obviously the district can reassign me if that’s what they choose to do, but I left the meeting thinking I'm going to be the football coach here,” Patrick said.

ORIGNAL STORY: Springdale High head football coach Shane Patrick was reassigned within the school district Wednesday.

The move came five days after the Bulldogs completed an 0-10 year, the program’s first winless season since going 0-0-3 in 1916. Springdale was 18-34 during Patrick’s five-year tenure.

The Bulldogs missed the playoffs in each of his final three seasons, the program’s longest-stretch since 1993-95. Springdale went a combined 0-15 against Fayetteville, Bentonville and Springdale Har-Ber with an average margin of defeat of 29.1 points the past five years.
