Hunt for Malaysian plane stalls

Jet not in ping area; expert says development bit of a setback

The Australian navy ship Ocean Shield is docked in March at a base in Perth, Australia, while being fitted with the pinger locator used in the hunt for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The case of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 grew more mysterious Thursday as Australia claimed that the missing airliner is not in the more than 300-square-mile patch of ocean where authorities have been searching since early April.
