Wastewater discharged into Bella Vista, Centerton creeks

Hundreds of thousands of gallons of wastewater were discharged into local creeks and a transmission force main broke, according to a news release from the Bella Vista Property Owners Association. Full news release:

The Arkansas Department of Health is advising people to be cautious when using Little Sugar Creek in Bella Vista or McKisic Creek in Centerton for recreational purposes, such as fishing or swimming.

A Centerton transmission force main broke this weekend, causing between 200,000 and 400,000 gallons of wastewater to discharge into McKisic Creek. McKisic Creek flows northeast out of Centerton into Bella Vista’s Little Sugar Creek.

The main has been repaired, and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality has been notified.

Bella Vista Village’s drinking water was not affected by the main break, said Mike Taggart, director of the Bella Vista Village Water Department.
