• Gabi Ashkenazi, Israel's former military chief, and three other former commanders were ordered arrested by a Turkish court while the four are being tried in absentia over the killing of nine people aboard a Turkish aid ship that tried to break a Gaza blockade in 2010.
• Celestino Moras, 25, of Austell, Ga., was charged with aggravated assault, accused of shooting into a crowd during a party and rodeo in Bartow County, where three people were shot and a fourth cut on the hand with a knife.

• Joshua Whittington of Konawa, Okla., and his girlfriend, Tracy Casteel, were charged with child abuse and enabling child abuse after video surfaced on Instagram of an attack on Whittington's 8-year-old son, who was shown wearing a football helmet while Casteel's 15-year-old son took a running start and kicked the younger boy in the head several times.
• Yasser Mohammed, Sudan's general prosecutor, barred media from reporting news related to the detention of a top opposition leader, Sadiq al-Mahdi, who was arrested over criticism of the government's security policy in the war-torn Darfur region.
• Kale Scott, 19, of Columbus, Miss., surrendered to police for questioning about a deadly shooting at a graduation party at the Columbus Fairgrounds last week that left 21-year-old Devin Lamar Montgomery dead after a bullet struck him in the back.
• Bill Heffernan, 71, an Australian senator who represents the ruling Liberal Party, startled his colleagues by producing a fake pipe bomb during a committee hearing as he was making a point about a relaxation of security at Parliament House.
