BENTON 4, SHERIDAN 2

Benton was down to its final strike of the season, trailing Sheridan 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning, when freshman Breanna Langford smashed a three-run home run to left field to give the Lady Panthers their first lead. Then Langford finished off the Lady Yellowjackets, taking the mound and slamming the door shut on Sheridan. 7C

South Side Bee Branch’s hitters gave the Hornets a lead, and sophomore Brian Dumas made sure it held up, working out of a two-on, one-out jam in the fifth inning. He allowed only two hits the rest of the way. 6C

DE QUEEN 4, HOT SPRINGS LAKESIDE 1

De Queen won its fifth state title in the past six seasons by defeating Hot Springs Lakeside. It makes up for the Leopards being knocked out in the semifinals last year, their first in Class 5A. 8C
