Seven-run third inning sparks Wolverines' rout

Michigan scored seven runs in the third inning on its way to a 17-3 victory over Florida State on Thursday night in an NCAA Super Regional at the Seminole Softball Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Wolverines (47-13) need another victory over the Seminoles to qualify for the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City which starts Thursday. Both teams play again at 3 p.m. today. A third game, if necessary will be played at 6 p.m.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning and Florida State scored twice in the second to lead 3-1 before the Wolverines scored seven in the third, once in the fifth and eight times in the sixth.

Michigan was led by left fielder Sierra Lawrence, who went 3 for 4, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBI. Catcher Lauren Sweet went 3 for 5, scored 2 runs and had 4 RBI. Taylor Hasselbach went 2 for 3 and scored twice.
