Senate Democrats overcame opposition by Republicans and quelled concerns by some civil libertarians Thursday, approving President Barack Obama's nominee for a top federal judgeship. The nominee is an architect of the administration's legal argument that allows the use of U.S. drones to kill American terror suspects overseas.
