Springdale police seek aggravated assault suspect

SPRINGDALE — Police are looking for a man accused of almost hitting officers with his vehicle before fleeing, according to a news release.

Officers responded about 3 a.m. Thursday to a report of a suspicious man at the Kum & Go at 1220 E. Robinson. The caller reported that the man kept entering and exiting the store and wouldn't leave, and was possibly under the influence of drugs.

Responding officers found the man sitting in a vehicle in the store's parking lot. As they approached, the driver started the engine. Officers commanded the driver to turn off the car, but the man quickly accelerated the car in reverse, according to the news release, and an officer had to quickly move to avoid being hit.

The man fled on East Robinson. Officers tried to give chase could not find the vehicle.

The man was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. The car was a black Pontiac Grand Prix with no tags.
