BENTONVILLE — Galen Havner, a longtime administrator in the School District, is retiring this summer after 41 years in education.

Havner has been the district's human resources director for about three years. Before that he was principal of Central Park Elementary for seven years and principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary for six years.

He began working for the district in 1993 as a fifth-grade teacher at R.E. Baker Elementary after 20 years as a principal in Enid, Okla.

"After 41 years of doing this job, and really trying to make school a successful and enjoyable part of people's lives, I just feel like I'm not able to accomplish that anymore. So I feel like it's time to move on," Havner said today.
